Ferment is a modern brewery that fuses traditional farmhouse techniques with a forward-thinking scientific approach.
We were tasked to help Ferment tell their story, both in concept and through visual expression. This included everything from brand design, to packaging, to environmental moments.
We took inspiration from the alchemical nature of fermentation, stemming from their Brewmaster and Director of Operations, Dan Peterson, who we lovingly nicknamed, “Gentle-Mountain-Man Dan.”

Growing up in Vermont, Dan spent nearly as much time in the woods as anywhere else. His love for nature led him down a path of studying microbiology, and before he knew it, he was wearing a white coat and working in a lab.
Luckily for all of us, he lost the lab coat and decided to use his scientific superpowers to brew great beer and kombucha instead.
We knew the brand had to represent his spirit and his approach, as he harvested natural, organic yeasts on the slopes of Mt Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, and lovingly cultivated it in the lab. It was a perfect balance of science and nature, of logic and of intuition.
We started by creating a logo and collateral system based on an exaggerated grid system—something that felt both scientific and artful.

And then we pulled that system into the packaging design.
And that carried over into the signage.
And we couldn't forget merch.
From the keg wraps to the van wraps, all of the brand touch points matter. We wove the branding into every element we could.
To offer a moment of discovery while in the taproom, we wheatpasted vintage beer and science magazine spreads in the bathroom interior.
Since it's launch, both the brewery and it's tasty concoctions have been well-received by the community, and the client is thrilled with the response.
